Girls Soccer Overnight

2 min read

This was originally one of my empty outreach bubbles, but over the summer, I discussed it with Lorna Riddle, who had a Girls’ Soccer Overnight bubble, to see if we could collaborate that night. I typed up and sent a proposal to Amy, Beth, Bob, and Mr. Barnes to fill my empty bubble with a Girls’ Overnight with Lorna on July 7, 2025. This was later approved on August 12, 2025. Then, through August and September, Lorna and I met a couple of times to plan the night, figuring out rides and showers since it was after one of our soccer away games. As well as figuring out food and our activities. Then we finalized the schedule on August 20, 2025, and held the event on September 19, 2025.

Even though it was after a soccer game, I felt it was nice because we had already been spending a lot of quality time together, and we had our second win of the season! All night, we prioritized staying together as a team. Even after the part Lorna and I led, we encouraged the team to hang out together rather than separately. Surprisingly, after such a long day, the girls had a lot of fun talking, eating snacks, and hanging out before they went to bed.

For my part of the night, I decided to give a short devotional about who we are, how we are called to find our identity in Christ, and what He says about us. In 2 Corinthians 5:17, it says, “Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” This shows that despite our stats, grades, or even our friend group. He is a firm foundation. I also spoke about how Jesus is the ‘I AM’; we are only Because He Is. We love because He is loving, and we are sons and daughters of God because He is. We can feel secure knowing that, despite what we may face, He is the firm foundation, He will never fail, and He is always there for us. We can trust that we can always lean on Him. I ended my part with an activity. I gave each girl a paper with ‘I Am’ in the center. I directed the girls to write or draw things that reminded them of what God says about them, but not what others do.

The girls responded very well and really enjoyed the activity. Their pages showed they were intentionally focusing on the truths God says about us. They all looked beautiful, were thoughtfully put together, and took their time with the activity. It was encouraging to see them be creative while also reflecting His truth. This really reminded me how important it is to slow down and be intentional about what God says about us, especially when external influences tell us otherwise.
