Girls' Testimony Night

Feb 25
2 min read

This Testimony night was both very fun and intentionally designed. When everyone arrived, I wanted everyone to get to know each other, because they weren’t all from Grace Prep. So when everyone arrived, we went around in a circle, saying our names and introducing ourselves. Then we started with an icebreaker game called “Truth vs. Lie,” where I gave statements such as “My worth comes from what people think” and “God’s love depends on my performance.” “I am loved by Christ.” So if they believed it was a lie, they had to move to the lie side, and the same with truth. Even though we knew which side to go to in our heads, some of us realized that we didn’t truly believe that in our hearts.

Once we finished the game, my mom had made and set out

food for the night, so I let the girls go get theirs before we sat down again. While they were eating, I handed out flashcards that said ‘I Am’ and the girls were all engaging in conversations. Once we had all finished eating and our conversations, I began my devotional, focusing on testimonies and their importance. Psalm 107:2 says, “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so,” and I wanted the girls to understand that our stories matter, even the big and the small that occur in our daily lives. So I opened it up to sharing, offering prompts such as a time when they felt Christ was reshaping their identity or when they questioned it. Several girls shared, and we ended with a prayer.

Afterwards, we went to the activity with the flashcard. I told them to take some quiet time to write down the labels they’ve carried, then cross them out and rewrite a truth He says about us, like “I am loved,” “I am chosen,” or “I am enough in Christ.” I also set up a mirror where they could write what God says they are, and I encouraged them to take a photo with it; they ended up filling it up!

I was so encouraged to see how carefully they considered the truths God tells us and shows us, and how He reveals who we are in Him through His word. This night reminded me that we need to slow down and listen carefully to the truths rather than the lies and labels we give ourselves.
